Why do I need computer support?
Security poses a huge risk to yourself and your business which is why it is essential to ensure you have up-to-date security measures implemented within your organisation. An unprotected PC or network can result in a varying number of problems.
WDP can assess the health of your PC or Network security adn advise you of your best most cost-effective solution options.
Some of the risks of unprotected Networks and PC's are the following:
Tracking Cookies – These are small files stored on your computer to
track your activities, they are generally harmless but people do not
like their privacy invaded.
Malware consisting of the following.
1. Spyware – These can vary in severity from just tracking your online
activities to logging all you keystrokes. When a piece of spyware logs
keystrokes it can report back to a server allowing unscrupulous people
to get any login details for any websites you have used. This
information is then often used for online fraud and identity theft.
2. Spammer viruses / Zombie Trojan – When your computer is infected
with a spammer virus it will become a “zombie” or “bot” that will be
used to send thousands of spam emails. All the spam emails you receive
in your inbox will be from one of these bots and infection. In 2006
Microsoft reported that upto 60% of PCs that were scanned for these
Zombie Trojans were infected.
3. DDoS Zombie Trojan – Similar to the above problem but this time you
computer will be used as part of an “army” of computers to launch an
attack against a server. Hundreds of thousands of computers can be used
to request information from a server, this will then frequently crash
the server.
In order to protect you from the above problems we typically:
1. Install Antivirus Programs – To help remove any viruses that may
infect your computer, this will include viruses embedded into emails.2.
Anti Trojan / Spyware Programs – This focuses specifically on Malware
and Cookies, which are the most common form of infection when browsing
the internet.
3. Install a Software Firewall – If you computer lacks a firewall
people can see you browsing the net and target attacks against you, a
firewall is used to hide you from hackers and stop any programs
accessing the net without your knowledge.
4. Install a Firewall Router / Modem – Most companies now access the
internet through broadband, unfortunately a lot of broadband providers
supply a USB based modem which is not very secure. A router based modem
will provide an always on connection so as soon as you switch your
computer on you will be able to access the net, it will also stop any
unauthorised outbound traffic from your computer, it will stop any DDoS
attacks against your computers and detect intrusion attempts.
5. Secure your wireless connection – Wireless access is becoming
increasingly popular as makes connecting to the internet a lot easier,
you no longer have to run cables around an office you can just put a
wireless card in your computer and access the net through your router
wirelessly. Unfortunately as convenient wireless is it can be very
insecure even if you have secured you wirless connection using WEP
encryption you may not be aware that this is actually very easy to hack
into and only offers the very basic of security. Website Design Pattaya
will install a router that uses WPA – PSK encryption which is far more
secure; we will use complex alpha numeric access keys to prevent people
guessing or brute forcing your password. Dependant on the size of your
business we can also restrict access to a router based on the physical
address of the PC that is accessing it. These factors will ensure your
network is completely safe.
